Vientiane reminds me too much of a city. I like it but I’ve become accustomed to greenery.
I visited the Budha park and the Patuxai aka the arc de triumph of Laos. Seeing as the French colonized, destroyed and then left this country, a lot of the architecture is a resemblance of the French.
I stayed at the Greenbox hostel in downtown Vientiane. It’s a close walk to the central bus station and thePatuxai. You can also catch the bus to Budha park at the bus station. The hostel is super cool and if you’re antisocial like me your bunk bed is literally a box with a curtain to enter and exit. No one can see you and you can’t see anyone. Heaven.
I was only going to stay in Vientiane for a day because I knew it wouldn’t take long to see all that I needed to see, but my VISA for Cambodia was a three day process and because I didn’t want to deal with getting it on arrival (things are sketchy in Cambodia) I decided to just do it here. It was super easy and cost $30 US dollars.
