Spent the day kayaking and hiking and swimming and actually vacationing! Oh, what a wonderful day!
So, I bought a ticket for a one day cruise to Ha Long Bai that would take me to see the different islands and take me kayaking! Me and one other person (Anna) were the only solo travellers, so naturally, we bonded and spent the rest of the day together. I can’t even tell you how refreshing it was to not be stared at like a freak all day! Because we were in the middle of the ocean and the only people on my boat were other foreigners, I was seen as a human once again. Oh heavenly bliss, thank you Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise.
The best part of today was I was telling Anna about the racism I experienced in Laos (I swear she asked me about Loas) and she genuinely listened! She not only listened but told me about how one of her friends experienced the same thing while they were traveling together. I don’t even think I can thoroughly explain to you how much this meant to me. Shout out to Anna and I hope one day you meet your Canadian love (She’s British and thinks all the hot guys are Canadian. Silly girl)
Anyway, Ha Long Bai is extremely beautiful, but also extremely polluted. There was garbage floating around everywhere. This is brought on by locals throwing their trash in the middle of the ocean and by foreigners who go on party boats! It’s a pitty really.
